“You Can’t Heal What You Don’t Feel” Unknown
I’m amazed at the lengths I used to go to in my quest to block out the negative emotions locked in my body from past experiences. I pushed down negative emotions into my Pandora’s box and distracted myself through many different means.
It’s really obvious that by doing so, I blocked my life force from free-flowing through my body and lost my ability to experience the more positive emotions of life. I was comfortably numb, which is not a good place to be.
When we hold negative emotions in our body and block our ability to feel those emotions, we also block the positive energy. While we might not feel the pain, we lose the pleasure. By spending time releasing negative energy, we create room for positive energy.
An empath without boundaries is likely to experience negative energy and blocks within their system from past experiences and from picking up the energy around them. Blocking off our energy is a natural response to feeling too much.
I moved away from feeling numb when I finally reached the crisis point and started my healing journey. As the negative emotions from the past came up to be released, I remained present in my body and used deep breathing exercises to naturally release the emotions. If I needed to, I would have a good cry along with it. By allowing myself to feel, sit with and breathe through, I released the negative emotions from my body.
If you are unsure whether you hold negative blocks within your energy (most people do), try sitting still for a few moments, meditate if you can, to still the mind and become aware of the feelings/emotions within your body.
You will know if you have negative emotions (energy) to be released if you experience feelings or anger, upset, hurt, shame, fear or guilt of even memories of what caused the negative emotions in your system.
While it might be unsettling to feel these emotions, it is important not to repress them. Instead, realise that you are no longer these feelings, they are coming up to be released once and for all.
If you do find that the feelings arise and you feel emotional turmoil, it is important to create space for yourself to feel and process these emotions. If you are angry, FEEL angry. If you are sad, FEEL sad. If you are upset, FEEL upset and allow yourself to cry, if needed, to release the blocks.
By feeling and acknowledging the emotions, a release can begin.
